Microsoft Says Safari is Outdated
Wednesday, 06 February 2008

While helping someone with an email related issue we decided to look at their Hotmail inbox on my computer. An interesting item struck my eye as the webmail was loaded by the Safari browser. The Windows Live screen suggests that Safari 3 is not new enough to handle it. A (giant) piece of the screenshot follows.

hotmail message

Not only is the newest Safari not recognized as a capable browser, but the screen suggests that Internet Explorer 6 is more recent.

I wonder whether any new users find this message after going online with their first Mac and then wonder why Apple has saddled them with an “inferior” browser? Fortunately, these people do not have the option of installing a Microsoft browser so this message cannot do much damage. If one pokes around the Windows Live site a little more, then one will find that Firefox 1.5 or newer is also said to support the advanced Microsoft features of the interwebs.
